Shalima Mohammed is one of the driving forces behind the Indo-Caribbean Cultural Centre’s (ICC) weekly Zoom Public Meetings, where vibrant discussions and cultural exchanges take place.
Professionally, Shalima is a teacher and a researcher, with a background in business psychology. She also has experience in the banking world, having previously worked as a personal banking representative. What makes her journey even more meaningful is her heritage—she’s a 5th generation descendant of Indian indentured immigrants who came to Trinidad from Uttar Pradesh back in 1869.
Shalima’s academic path reflects her passion for understanding people and culture. She holds a Master’s degree in Business Psychology from Franklin University (Ohio, USA), a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology (with honors) from COSTAATT in Trinidad & Tobago, and a Diploma in Business Management from the San Fernando Technical Institute (now UTT).
Her research is both comparative and interdisciplinary, focusing on how psychological principles help explain the relationships within the Indian diaspora over generations. Beyond her academic work, she’s also a passionate advocate for traditional Indian health practices and alternative approaches to wellness.
Shalima brings a warm, thoughtful presence to everything she does, making her an inspiring figure in both academic and cultural circles.
