Family oral history, carried down five generations, records that sometime between 1890 and 1910 an arkati — a licensed sub-agent of the indenture-recruitment system — came to Udhranpur and offered Asharam Mishra employment "in Assam." Asharam left with his wife and three children. The arkati later returned to the village and told the family that all of them had died at the place of work. पाँच पीढ़ियों से चली आ रही पारिवारिक मौखिक स्मृति के अनुसार, कभी 1890 से 1910 के बीच एक अरकाटी — अनुबंधन-भर्ती प्रणाली का लाइसेंसधारी उप-अभिकर्ता — उधरनपुर आया और आशाराम मिश्रा को "असम में" रोज़गार का प्रस्ताव दिया। आशाराम अपनी पत्नी और तीन बच्चों के साथ चले गए। अरकाटी बाद में गाँव लौटा और परिवार को बताया कि वे सब कार्य-स्थल पर मृत्यु को प्राप्त हुए।
The Centre notes that this account matches the well-documented pattern of arkati deception during the peak Girmitiya export period. Recruits who believed they were being taken to tea gardens within India were in a majority of such cases in fact shipped from the Calcutta depot to the overseas indentured-labour colonies. When entire households were never heard from again, the recruiter's standard cover story to the sending village was that they had died at the destination. केंद्र नोट करता है कि यह वृत्तांत गिरमिटिया-निर्यात के चरम काल में अरकाटी के छल की सुप्रलेखित प्रवृत्ति से मेल खाता है। जो भर्तियाँ मानती थीं कि उन्हें भारत के भीतर चाय-बागानों में ले जाया जा रहा है, वे बहुधा वास्तव में कलकत्ता डिपो से समुद्रपार अनुबंधित-श्रम उपनिवेशों को भेजी गईं। जब कोई सम्पूर्ण परिवार सदा के लिए लापता हो जाता, तो अरकाटी की मानक व्याख्या यही होती कि वे गंतव्य पर मृत्यु को प्राप्त हुए।
